Rally Round Rupert was born from a place of hope, and community spirit, after our son Rupert was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1, at six weeks old.

Our mission statement since establishing the charity has been clear:

“To raise awareness of SMA and funds in support of clinical research”

And after three years of incredible progress, we have now raised over £485,000 for vital clinical research, while building a network of families, clinicians, and supporters who care deeply about improving the lives of children with the condition.

As our charity has grown, so too has our impact and we are now working alongside world-renowned research organisations, contributing to projects that have the potential to change the future of SMA care.

With this growth comes a natural moment to pause, and consider how we want to position ourselves for the years ahead. As such, the Trustees feel that this is the right time for our charity to rename and rebrand, ensuring that our new name better reflects the broad work we do on behalf of all children with SMA. Therefore, we are proud to announce that Rally Round Rupert will now become ‘Research SMA’.

This new name marks the beginning of another chapter for our charity. One built on everything we have proudly achieved so far, and everything we are determined to achieve going forward. We hope you will continue to be a part of this amazing journey as we are only just getting started!

Our website is www.researchsma.org.uk.
